During the war in 1944, three
Italian prisoners of war arrive
in an isolated community in the
Black Isle to help with the farming.
Ignored by the locals, worried
about families at home, and miserable
in the Scottish climate, they are
finally befriended by a cowman's wife.
The film explores what happens to a
community when people of a
different culture are forced to
live and work among them.
Michael Radford's 1996 Oscar
